In 2012 the Association agreed to fund the making of a set of copes to be worn by the Residentiary Canons for special services, to be known as the Jubilee Copes to commemorate the Queen’s Accession.
They were designed by the leader of the Cathedral’s Needlework Guild, Dilys Jones, and made by the members of the Guild itself.
Each cope is particular to the canon who wears it. The Dean’s cope has the Cathedral’s coat of arms: the Precentor, who is responsible for the Cathedral’s music, has the design of a musical score, the Chancellor, responsible for education, has a design of books, and the Sub Dean, one of the Masters of the Fabric, has the working tools of a Mason.
They are shown here, worn by the Residentiary Canons when they were first worn on St Hugh’s Day, 17th November 2012.
